A 36-YEAR-OLD man predicted his own fate when police found a knife in his jumper.

William Cochrane, known as John, of Kenneth Place, Inverness told officers “that’s me getting the jail” when they recovered the weapon.

He has been on remand since November 22 last year on other matters, and was jailed this week for 12 months, backdated to that date.

Cochrane admitted at Inverness Sheriff Court possessing the blade in Grant Street on September 8, 2021.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Margaret Neilson: “Police attention was drawn to him as he was staggering, unsteady on his feet and talking on the phone.

"His speech was also slurred, he was drowsy and there was white residue round his mouth.”
