A motor mechanic fell out with a woman days before they were due to go on holiday after they had both had a few drinks.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 42-year-old Andrew McNeil, of McInnes Place, Inverness was slapped in the face after he insulted her on June 24.

Fiscal depute Victoria Silver told Sheriff Sara Matheson that McNeil grabbed the woman by the hair, dragged her downstairs into the street and threw a plastic drying rack at her.

"The following day she returned to his house to speak to him as they were due to go on holiday later that week," she said. "They went to the Gunsmiths pub and had a few drinks.

"He said he wanted to go home and went outside only to come back and start shouting and swearing at her to go home with him."

Defending, John MacColl, said his client's recollection of events was poor but he accepted everything she accused him of doing.

"They did go on holiday together and are still in a relationship," he said. "On the first occasion, both of them were adversely affected by alcohol.

"She slapped him first before the conduct that followed. Being disinhibited by alcohol is no excuse. The following day she had too much to drink and he had not. He wanted them to go home, he left and she did not."

McNeil was fined £580 after admitting assault and threatening or abusive behaviour.

Sheriff Matheson told him: "This is the fourth domestic. You are getting into territory that some kind of intervention will be required if this behaviour continues."
