A chance encounter with an Inverness man's ex partner sparked a furious row over the identity of the man who was with her.

Inverness Sheriff Court previously heard that 27-year-old Ryan Graham, of Blackwell Road, Inverness had an agreement with the woman after they parted that they would tell each other who each was seeing.

But when Graham saw the man sitting in her car at the Spar Store in Barn Church Road, Inverness on October 26, last year, he wanted to know who he was.

Sheriff Robert Frazer was told the woman had gone into the shop and was confronted by Graham, who then left to return to the car to question the male passenger about his identity.

Fiscal depute Shamielah Ghafar said: "He was told it was none of his business. His partner went back to the car but he took out the keys from the ignition and demanded to know who was the man she was with.

"He was becoming aggressive, she felt threatened and was worried he was going to hit her."

Graham admitted a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said: "When they separated, they agreed to keep each other up to speed on who they were seeing. He accepts he crossed a line here."

Sheriff Frazer told first offender Graham that he regarded it as "an isolated incident".

He deferred sentence for his good behaviour until December 21.

When Graham returned to be sentenced, Sheriff Gary Aitken was presiding and heard Mr Gowans tell the court that his client had not re-offended since.

Sheriff Aitken decided to impose a six-month long non-harassment order preventing contact with the woman with no other penalty applied.
