CCTV located a 23-year-old Inverness man a few hundred yards away from the location he assaulted a woman.

Police had been alerted after the woman called for help following the disagreement with Kyle Scott, of Bailey Place, Inverness on April 19 last year.

A neighbour in the block of flat at School Lane, Inverness heard the commotion in the stairwell of Wyvern House and saw a scuffle between the pair.

Fiscal depute Victoria Silver told Sheriff Gary Aitken that the woman took a swing at him after he got hold of her.

"She shouted for help and he struck her on the face, causing her to fall against a wall," she said. "He fled the building and he was located on Bank Street by CCTV.

"Police pursued him and caught up with him but while being searched, he struggled and head-butted an officer. He was then restrained to the ground."

Scott admitted both assaults and his solicitor David Patterson told Inverness Sheriff Court: "He understands his conduct was wholly unacceptable and he is remorseful."

Sheriff Aitken ordered Scott to carry out 160 hours of unpaid community work and remain under social work supervision for 18 months.

He must also have alcohol and drug treatment and a non-harassment order of one year was imposed to protect his victim.

The sheriff called for a progress report and Scott returns to court on March 7 for the review.

But he was warned: "If you breach this order, you will go to jail."
