Sheriff Robert Frazer heard the case at Inverness Justice Centre.

A revelation that his partner had a brief affair resulted in a woman being struck in the face.

The incident happened in Old Perth Road, Inverness on September 15, 2022 and 46-year-old Paul Horne, of Murray Terrace, Inverness was charged with assault.

He previously appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted the offence. Sentence was deferred for a background report.

Horne returned to court to learn his fate and Sheriff Robert Frazer decided to impose a community payback order with the condition Horne carries out 100 hours of unpaid community work.

Defence agent Marc Dickson told the court: "They were in a long-term relationship and had been drinking. It came to my client's attention that his partner had a short-term affair a short time before and it sparked an argument.

"He bitterly regrets what he did but the relationship has ended."
