Inverness Ice Centre is to defrost for three months this year due to rising energy prices.
The board of the charity has opted to switch off the facility's ice plant between April 10 and July 1 to save on the high costs associated with keeping it running.
However it is hoped that summer camps will run as normal ahead of the traditional autumn winter season.
The board also hope to "build for the future" by creating a community hub and events area to attract new visitors, the chairman Michael Green said in a post on social media.
There will also be a fundraising campaign through the year to help keep the centre and associated activities in the Highland capital.
Inverness Skating and Ice Dance Club, who said members use the club all year, claimed to be "disappointed" with the announcement.
