A HOSPITAL ward has reopened following a sickness outbreak.

Ward 6C at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness was closed to new patients last week after two people fell ill with norovirus.

The bug causes sickness and diarrhoea and is highly contagious.

Although the latest outbreak was contained NHS Highland has warned that it is still circulating within the area and has urged the public to do everything they can to minimise its spread.

“Do not visit a hospital if you or someone you live with has symptoms,” said a NHS Highland spokesman. “If you have a hospital appointment, please get in touch and, where appropriate, your appointment can be rescheduled.”

“If you visit someone in hospital, don’t sit on their bed and keep the number of visitors to a minimum at any one time. Never touch dressings, drips, or other equipment around the bed.”

Those who have had norovirus should also wait until they have been clear of all symptoms for at least 48 hours before visiting a hospital, even if they feel well.

Regular hand washing is also advised.
