The Inverness Hospital Radio team are delighted with their awards nominations.

Inverness Hospital Radio has been nominated for seven awards at this year’s Hospital Broadcasting Association awards.

This is the most nominations the service has ever received in 30 years of the national awards.

The news comes on the back of a year of hard work and innovation by the volunteers based at their dedicated studios in Raigmore Hospital.

In the past 12 months the service has increased its live broadcasts with more presenters providing entertaining and informative programming for listeners at the Inverness hospital and across the whole NHS Highland area via their online stream.

They have also worked with NHS Highland to broadcast health messaging and joined up with local charities to support their outdoor events by providing music and entertainment and broadcast live from locations such as Dunrobin Castle, with ARCHIE, and the Kessock Bridge, with Highland Hospice.

At the upcoming awards the station is up for: best speech package for Ally McLoughlin in conversation with local musician Calum Jones; best newcomer ad female presenter of the year for Shannon Marvell; best programme with multiple presenters for Terry Henderson and Iain Mackintosh on ‘The All New Golden Oldies Show’; male presenter of the year for Thomas Nelson; best station promotion and station of the year.

The winners in each category will be announced at a gala dinner on March 25.

Shannon Marvell said: “I’m over the moon that the station has been recognised for all the hard work that our volunteers have put into it.

“Considering that I have been a member for just over a year, it’s a shock that I’ve been nominated for two awards. If there’s anything I would like to come out of these nominations is to attract young people, especially women, into the radio and broadcasting industry.”

“These nominations go to show that hospital radio is still such an important part of patient care.”

Programme controller Terry Henderson said: “Iain and I were absolutely delighted to be nominated – not bad for a couple of 70-year-olds!

“We have great fun presenting the All New Golden Oldies Show and hopefully that comes across. It’s not a complicated format – great music, a quiz and news with plenty of laughs thrown in for nothing.

“It’s brilliant to be nominated as station of the year. A lot of hard work went into getting us to where we are today and broadcasting online. Amazing to think people from Inverness, the Highlands, Scotland, the UK, Europe and not forgetting the rest of the world can hear us 24 hours a day with something for everybody.

“We’re very proud of the variety of shows we’ve created.”

Chairman of Inverness Hospital Radio, Thomas Nelson, said: “I am absolutely delighted at Inverness Hospital Radio receiving these nominations by the HBA.

“To receive such an acknowledgement from the national body of our industry for all the work we have put in during the past 12 months is exceptionally rewarding. Whether we go on to win any of the awards or not I am very pleased to know that we are making very positive moves towards making our service even better for our listeners and our partners across the NHS Highland area.”
