Inverness Highland Games: 'There won't be another like it!' promises Provost
There is a new attraction at Inverness Highland Games on Saturday, July 15 – the chance to have a slap-up three-course lunch and wine with the city provost in a marquee beside all the heavy events.
The Highland Council has posted online: "Come and have a delightful time with us and the Provost in our exclusive civic tent!
"You'll get to enjoy a private lunch and have a great view of all the action happening on the field."
And the £75 per person tickets have apparently been snapped up.
This prompted a few derisive comments including one questioning whether it was a new low for local government.
But Provost Glynis Campbell-Sinclair said: "It is more of a corporate event for sponsors than a civic tent. It is another way of us trying to raise money for such events after the events and festivals programme budget was cut in half from £350,000.
"We have to think of other ways of bring income in to keep such events intact, and we have still managed to keep the games entry ticket down to £10 this year."
This year the main Inverness Highland Games bar tent will be taken over by MacGregor’s Traditional Music for a day-long session of music and dancing.
Provost Campbell-Sinclair added: "I am more excited by our collaboration with local traditional musician and licensee Bruce MacGregor which is going to be phenomenal, with live music throughout the day and he has put together a fabulous band for the big ceilidh dance at night, entry £15.
"There is whisky tasting and a Prosecco bar too, along with Scottish country dancing.
"There won't be another Highland Games like it!"
Included in the lunch ticket is:
- Entry to the games
- Table inside the Civic Tent
- Event programme
- Welcome glass of fizz
- Three-course lunch including a complimentary bottle of white and red wine per table
- Opportunity to meet the Provost
Tables of 10 are available at a price of £75 per person but there are limited spaces available so anyone interested should contact Kim at info@blackorchidevents.com to check availability.
A council spokesperson said: “Interest in the Inverness Highland Games is very positive and we look forward to a great day out for all. Ticket sales are going extremely well."
