Firefighters in the Highlands were called out during the early hours of this morning.

The alarm was raised at 5.55am because a large derelict building in the centre of Strathpeffer, just off the A834, had caught fire.

Initially two appliances were sent to the scene and they were later joined by four more as well as the aerial ladder platform – crews were sent from Invergordon, Dingwall and Inverness.

They used two hose reel jets to put out the blaze as well as the aerial ladder platform.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said police were also at the scene and the fire was out by 10.49am.

Two appliances as well as the aerial ladder platform are still at the scene checking for hotspots and to make sure the area is safe.
