Two dogs have died in a fire in Inverness, and a family have lost all their possessions.

The fire broke out at the home of Amanda and Keith Goodbrand.

The couple were not at home when the fire started, as they had gone out to visit their daughter at Raigmore Hospital and were looking after her two chihuahuas Lottie and Alife.

The blaze took two hours for firefighters to extinguish, with fire engines from Inverness and Beauly at the scene.

Their daughter, Dana Campbell, has started a Go Fund Me page to raise funds to buy the pair clothes and food after losing everything in the fire.

Speaking to The Inverness Courier, Ms Campbell said: “They’ve lost absolutely everything.

“They are so broken, numb, hurt and in a state of shock.

“They’ve lost their whole life and the dogs. It was my grandad’s passing place and where we had childhood memories.”

Mr and Mrs Goodbrand are staying at their daughter’s house, but will have to move into a hotel next week. They have been advised by the assessor to look for a long-term rent themselves, as otherwise they may not be put in an area close to home.

Jackie Campbell, Mr and Mrs Goodbrand's other daughter, said: "They had only left the house 13 minutes before the fire started.

"We now need to go in the house and see what sentimental things we can salvage, and my grandad's chair is really important to us.

"He saved up his pension for it. We want to see if we can restore it.

"We are absolutely devastated by the fire. You build up stuff up in your home over years and years, and it's gone within 15 minutes. I don't think people realise what you lose when a home burns down. My mum and dad's house was where we all gathered for family events, and it was the hub.
