Headway Highland is a small, independent charity that supports adults with an acquired brain injury (ABI).

In May 2022, Inverness members started a project with Highland Culture Collective artist in residency, Evija Laivina from Highland Print Studio in Inverness. Throughout the project Headway Highland members received advice and support from Evija on all aspects of photography, and they met up regularly to take photographs at a variety of outdoor locations out and about in Inverness.

Acquired brain injury is often thought of as a hidden illness, with people appearing completely normal from the outside but in reality, are struggle internally, with symptoms that can affect emotions, behaviour, cognition and communication. ABI also often comes with psychological and psychosocial difficulties, such as: anxiety, low mood, memory loss or struggling to concentrate. People with ABI can also struggle with physical symptoms that affect mobility and co-ordination, and can become easily fatigued.

Headway Highland said:" We are delighted that the WASPS Creative Academy in Inverness agreed that we could exhibit from Saturday 5th November to Tuesday 22nd November 2022.

"Everyone is very excited, and we cannot wait to see the amazing photos taken by our members exhibited for the public to view. Very kindly our members will generously donate any proceeds from photographs purchased to Headway Highland.

"A special thank you must go to Evija who has worked so hard to bring this project together and been so supportive to our members. The most difficult part was trying to decide which photos to leave out!

"We had a great response and our members really embraced the project. It was wonderful to see so many stunning photographs being taken, and how engaged and passionate our members were in the art of trying to get their 'perfect shot'".
