ANOTHER musical treat is lined up for Under Canvas at Eden Court, Inverness later this month.

To mark Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters, the venue is hosting Uisge week from 12 – 19 September which will explore the magic and mystery of the sea, rivers and lochs through music.

Waterways have long been inspirations for Scotland’s musicians. This week features a series of critically acclaimed compositions and performances, which all evoke the might and mystery of uisge, Gaelic for "water." The week features several commissions exploring the theme of uisge.

The undeniably romantic notion of casting a message into the ocean and allowing fate to guide the journey formed the catalyst for the audio-visual piece Message in a Bottle created by harpist Ingrid Henderson for NatureScot’s Year of Coast and Waters commission. She is supported by Feis Rois musicians with sea-themed songs.

Jennifer Port, award winning harpist will enchant with haunting traditional music followed by Mike Vass’s Notes from the Boat, one of the most creative forces on the Scottish music scene.

In his latest project, Orcadian fiddle player Graham Rorie has brought together a selection of Glasgow musicians to present a suite of newly-composed music inspired by his fellow Orcadians who travelled to northern Canada to work for the Hudson’s Bay Company during the 18th and 19th centuries.

From Scottish folk duo Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach, and Filmmaker Hamish Macleod, Air Iomall (Gaelic for On the Edge) is a film and suite of new music, inspired by a voyage aboard the tall ship Wylde Swan to uninhabited islands deep in the North Atlantic. The film follows the duo on this journey, centred around the first performance of this new music on St Kilda, the most remote part of the UK, on the 88th anniversary of the evacuation of its native population.
