A PLAN for a cheerleading and dance studio has been proposed behind the recently opened Anytime Fitness gym in Inverness to boost young athletes’ chances of success in regional, national and international competition.

The gym in Harbour Road occupies a former car showroom, and now Kerri Love of Team Love Cheer (TLC) would like to use the site’s former garage workshop, which is now sitting unused.

The supporting statement accompanying the application says: “The largest part of the business is training elite dancers and cheerleaders to compete at national championships. TLC has been looking for its own unit for some time. Their own space is critical as training can be limited due to limited space in Inverness. Time is also a huge constraint because many spaces in Inverness shut on Sundays.

“TLC want to continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the All Star cheer and dance industry and having a fully equipped and safe space to train in would allow this.”

Regarding vehicle traffic, it is pointed out that there is already adequate space surrounding the former showroom and garage workshop, but in any case most drivers would be “drop-and-go” as parents and carers are not allowed into the training sessions.

The cheer and dance hub would operate seven days a week with the busiest day being Saturday when some classes can have the maximum number of students, 25, attending.

The application is currently under consideration by Highland Council planners.
