A crazy golf operator is taking extra security measures after intruders vandalised seating within the popular complex.

Gus MacDonald, who runs Inverness Crazy Golf at Bught Park, was dismayed to find two chairs smashed when he opened up for business yesterday morning.

Having invested great time, money and effort into creating an enjoyable environment for customers, Mr MacDonald admitted the damage was “demoralising” but is hoping to have captured footage of the culprits.

He has also now invested in state of the art technology that sends security footage directly to his mobile phone.

He is also appealing for any witnesses who saw anything suspicious to contact him or the police.

“We’ve been very fortunate over the years at not having too many incidents and the alarm and CCTV have helped,” Mr MacDonald said.

“We will be reviewing footage and hopefully we will have captured images of those responsible.

“But we had a couple of chairs smashed and while the monetary value isn’t great, it is just a bit demoralising.

“We’ve put so much time, money and effort into making it as comfortable as possible for people and just one or two can spoil it.

“We have just installed more security, three new mobile phone alerting cameras that link to you wherever you are, so hopefully we can stop any future issues.

“It is great because I can actually put a siren out to scare them off and speak to them as well as record.

“It enables us to be alerted as soon as possible to any issues over there.”

Mr MacDonald is now enjoying his eighth season at the 15-hole crazy golf having completely transformed the previously run-down 1970s crazy golf facility.

The attraction has proven highly-popular with locals and visitors alike, with an ice cream and refreshment kiosk on-site also luring in many non-golfing customers.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact Police Scotland on 101.
