A mother was trapped inside her home when her son used power tools to seal external doors to prevent his father getting access.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that police spent three hours in negotiation with 39-year-old former Nairn man Campbell Munro before they forced entry.

Munro, now of Victoria Street, Aberdeen, was found lying in the hallway and arrested after his mother had escaped through a ground floor window, fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh told Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood.

Munro admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in the property on Newton Road, Cawdor on December 18, 2022.

He was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid community work.

Ms Duffy-Welsh told the court that Munro had been drinking and watching football after his father had left the house because they had had an argument and he did not want to remain in his son's company.

The court heard that Munro's mother had delivered "a few home truths" and then he began shouting and swearing, kicking doors and causing damage before using power tools to lock the doors.

"The cost of replacing the doors was £1157 and there were labour costs in addition," the prosecutor added.

Defending, Grant Daglish said: "He took his anger out on the doors. He has now moved to the Aberdeen area and is working. There has been no further incident."
