AN Inverness biker and disability rights campaigner has sadly passed away on Sunday.

A well-known face in the Inverness community, David Sansum (44) had been campaigning to make Inverness a more accessible place.

Tributes have been pouring on social media after a post on Inverness BID's Facebook page was published.

It said: "We were very sorry to hear the very sad news that David Sansum passed away on Sunday. David was a well known face in the city, he had a wonderful and caring character and will be missed by many people.

"Funeral details have yet to be confirmed. David's family have asked that his biker friends attend with their bikes as he would be so proud."

Many of those who knew him responded with heartfelt comments.

"It's very sad to hear this, " commented Doreen MacDonald. "Very recently my friend and I bumped into David and we quickly reminisced about our college days and art. He was upbeat and irreverent and happy to get back to "normal" after the wintery weather. He will be missed."

Bill Anderson said: "So sad to hear about David's passing. Enjoyed your company, chats and wee adventures. Will miss you my friend. Rest in peace David. Condolences to family and close friends."

Sofie Marie Macleod said: "I am so sorry to hear this, I saw him at vampires rock just over a week ago! Used to seeing his smiley face at Steve’s shows. Condolences to family and friends."

Kiera Kempster added: "This is very sad to hear. Visited him and his sweet cat last week. He adored her. He was always pleased to have a chat and never appeared sorry for himself despite his difficulties. Rest in Peace David, it was a pleasure to have known you x

A post on the public group Thunder In The Glen 2023 also remembered David and his passion for motorbikes.

It said: "David Sansum a great supporter of Thunder in the Glen for many years has passed away suddenly in Inverness , for those of you who regularly attend TITG you would see David going round the site in his electric wheelchair, TITG was the highlight of his year and he had a passion for all bikes but especially Harley Davidson's, his dream was to do Route 66 , although he didn't have a bike he had the heart, soul and passion of a biker. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. Thinking of his family at this very sad time. RIP David."
