A Ross-shire man has admitted assaulting a police officer in Inverness city centre.

Andrew Burgess (29) spat on the male officer's head when confronted on the city's Queensgate on February 11 last year, Inverness Sheriff Court heard.

He was taken into custody but the following day at Burnett Road police station he tried to assault the same officer.

According to court papers he lunged towards the constable and attempted to headbutt him as well as making violent threats.

Burgess, of Crawford Avenue, Rosemarkie, had his sentence deferred until March 28 so that Sheriff David Harvie could see background reports.
