Seven Inverness church elders with a combined total of almost 300 years of service have been recognised for their efforts.

The group was presented with long service certificates at Old High St Stephen's Church of Scotland.

Between them they have notched up 296 years.

The elders were presented with their certificates by locum minister Rev James Bissett.

They included well-known local artist Gordon Harvey, a long-serving art teacher at Inverness Royal Academy, who has given 50 years of service.

The others were Flora Milne (46 years), Stuart MacKenzie (45 years), Ken Cantlay (44 years), Jim Alexander (43 years), Isobel Allan (30 years) and Andrew Stevenson (38 years) who recently retired as an elder.

The certificates were presented by Rev James Bissett, the locum minister at Old High St Stephen's.

Old High and St Stephen’s session clerk Christine Mackenzie said: "Long service certificates are supplied by the Church of Scotland and signed by the current Moderator, Rt Rev Sally Foster-Fulton.

"It's truly magnificent service to give to their local congregation and wider church."

The congregation was formed on 30 October 2003 by a union of the congregations of Inverness Old High and Inverness St Stephen's.

The centuries-old A-listed Old High Church on the banks of the River Ness formally closed its doors for services in 2022 as it was no longer financially viable to maintain both churches.

The congregation now worships at the B-listed St Stephen’s at the junction of Southside Road and Old Edinburgh Road.
