Inverness Choral Society hit a high note with donation to Mikeysline

A FESTIVE fundraising event delivered a late Christmas present of £2,000 to leading local charity Mikeysline at a special handover.
Inverness Choral Society raised the cash at their annual carolthon in December at the Eastgate Shopping Centre.
The event returned for the first time since 2019 with a selection of carols and choruses from Handel’s Messiah performed to raise funds to share between the choir and Mikeysline.
And before their regular rehearsal at Smithton Free Church, choir members saw the cheque presented to Mikeysline chief executive Emily Stokes.
Handing over the money, one of the carolthon organisers, Andrea Gritter thanked Mikeysline for its work – and everyone in the choir who supported the carolthon.
Ms Stokes said: “It’s an amazing amount of money. Since Covid we have realised there are many more needs in the local community.”
The carolthon started in 1986 and up until this year has raised more than £71,000 for 22 charities.
Society chairwoman Carol Brown said: “There’s been such a long gap since 2019, the choir’s enthusiasm coming back for the carolthon has been great. And it has been great working with Mikeysline, they’re such a worthy, hardworking and innovative charity, we’re just delighted to have been able to raise significant funds for them as well as ourselves.”

A festive fundraiser has seen Mikeysline receive £2,000 from Inverness Choral Society raised at their annual carolthon in December at the Eastgate Centre.

Mikeysline volunteers collected donations at the event on Saturday, December 17 – which ran from 11am-3pm with choral members taking turns. It was also the last appearance with the choir before Sheila Bruce retired as accompanist for 46 years.
The next event for Inverness Choral Society will be Faure’s Requiem which they will be performing at Inverness Cathedral on Saturday, April 22, along with shorter pieces. Soloists will be soprano Colleen Nicoll, making her debut with the society, and bass baritone Colin Brodie. Tickets are £15, under 16s free. More: www.invernesschoral.org.uk
