THE Ironworks in Inverness resounded to the wonderful sound of the Highland Voices gospel choir as it delighted an audience of about 170 last week and raised funds for the Cash for Kids appeal.

Led by Tony Henry, the 30-strong choir had the audience hand clapping and foot tapping as they went through a festive repertoire that defied Covid and raised spirits.

Mr Henry said: “The concert went exceptionally well and I think it was well received by the audience.

“We were very excited to be playing in front of an audience again but it looks as though we got in just in time before the Covid situation started to worsen.

“The money raised has still to be finalised but on the night more than £1200 was raised.

“We have wedding gigs booked but they are very much up in the air at the moment because of Covid.”

Mr Henry, who won BBC 2’s competitive walking programme Take a Hike this year, said the choir would love to return to the Ironworks as soon as possible.

Meanwhile advanced plans for a first Highland Voices album have been put on hold because of Covid.
