Inverness chekout man is seeing 'red' but not for much longer
A SUPERMARKET checkout supervisor is set to say goodbye to his crowning glory in aid of two very deserving causes.
Charles Borthwick (23), originally from Smithton in Inverness and now living in Daviot, plans to have his hair cut at the end of the month and donate the tresses to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young people who have lost their own hair.
“I would call my hair ‘ginger’ but my mum has always called it red hair,” he said.
“Whatever it is, I have lots of it!
“I’ve been growing it for more than five years, since 2015, so there is enough to make a long wig for someone who needs it.”
Mr Borthwick, who works at Tesco Inshes, but has ambitions to be a technical teacher, added: “I am ready for my hair to go.
“My hair is a little bit different due to the colour of it, and I am sure it will make someone very happy. I am sure it will be very unusual.”
As well as donating the hair itself, former Culloden Academy pupil Mr Borthwick has also been fundraising for the “incredible” trust as well as an environmental charity close to his heart, the Coalition for the Rainforest Nations.
“My initial target was £300, and I moved that to £500,” he said.
“I have now raised more than £1000, but it would be wonderful if we were able to raise a little bit more.”
He has set up a fundraising page at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/chopforcharles
“I would be grateful for any donation, big or small to support these two amazing causes,” he said.
