INVERNESS Cathedral has announced that it will be starting a new Junior Choir after the Easter holidays.

The choir will be open to all children aged 7-13 years old, with practise on Friday afternoons and no previous experience needed.

Director of music Adrian Marple said: “The choir is a good experience as it allows children to take part in positive teamwork.”

The cathedral has enjoyed a tradition of singing throughout its long history, with an adult choir already currently in place.

The aim is that the Junior Choir will provide the necessary training and experience for young singers to join the main cathedral choir later.

Mr Marple said: “Many have found the benefits of singing in the choir, particularly in the stunning setting of the cathedral with its excellent acoustics and superb organ.

“It has inspired several to go into the music profession.”

Mr Marple is new to the role within the cathedral but was previously a music teacher. Among his former pupils is former X Factor winner Matt Cardle.

Practise sessions for the Junior Choir will take place on Fridays during term-time from 3.45pm-4.45pm, starting on April 22.

Parents are invited to come along and can enjoy refreshments from Cafe Ness next to the cathedral.
