Inverness carer told to pay into police fund following contactable assault

An Inverness carer who punched a police officer has been ordered to pay into a fund to support those injured in the line of duty.
Neve Griffin (19) punched the constable on the face on March 4 last year during an incident at the junction of the A96 and the Barn Church Road.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the assault took place around 11.50pm when police in a marked vehicle came across a stationary car with its hazard lights on and two women standing nearby.
Fiscal depute Emma MacEwan said when Griffin was approached she got into one of the officer's personal space and punched him, striking him on the face.
The court was told that there was no injury as a result.
Defence agent John MacColl said there had been some alcohol consumed by Griffin but that she was not normally someone who drank and she had felt sick while being driven by her partner in the car.
He added that she offered her apologies and that her court appearance was of "significant regret".
Griffin, of Carnarc Crescent, was ordered to pay £300 into the police restitution fund.
Restitution orders came into force in February 2021 and the money is used to fund the support for injured police officers.
