A POPULAR Inverness city centre café has started Christmas celebrations well in advance this year.

Charlie's Cafe near the bus station has brought a touch of festive spirit to the summer at the weekend by offering a Christmas dinner meal.

With Christmas dinners having been cancelled for the past two years, the team at Charlie thought they would allow people to catch up – or celebrate in advance with their offer.

General manager Chris Corbett said he saw the idea a few years ago and decided to give it a try at Charlie's.

"We had a very good Christmassy weekend here," he said. "We sold out on Saturday and ended up putting some more on Sunday, which didn’t all sell out but we got through a good bit of it.

"It was very well received overall I think and could become an annual feature for us.

"It's been a couple of horrible years, and people have not been able to see each other to celebrate, so I thought – why not having it in the middle of summer?

"I know from my own experience, that so many people didn't get to do their Christmas nights out.

"It's got a lot more interest online than we would have expected

The Christmas spirit roared despite the warm temperatures at the cafe, which has been a staple in Inverness since the 50s.

"We wanted to remind everyone as well that Charlie's Cafe is always here. We have been here for over 70 years so it's a gentle reminder that Charlie's is here!

"The restaurant scene in Inverness is changing and there are so many new places coming up. It's great to see and as long as everybody gets their share it's great!"
