Inverness butcher wins gold award for steak pie at Scottish Craft Butchers Awards

An Inverness butcher's pies have won national recognition.

A & I Quality, which has a shop in Keppoch Road, Culloden, won a gold award for its traditional steak pie at the Scottish Craft Butchers Awards.

It was among the contenders in the steak pie and speciality pie evaluation.

The heats were held at Forth Valley College with more than 190 pies tested for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal.

The panel of judges included experts, food writers and interested consumers who were impressed by the quality, innovation and craft in each pie.

The event is organised by Scottish Craft Butchers in conjunction with The Dalesman Group and John Scott Meat.

Other winners included Fraser Brothers of Dingwall which won silver awards for its traditional steak pie, venison pie and chicken and mushroom pie.

Simon Coles, sales manager of The Dalesman Group, sponsor of the steak pie evaluation, said his group was proud to support local butchers to develop their recipes by supplying high quality ingredients.

"To be crowned champion in this category truly demonstrates the ongoing commitment to providing consistent, high-quality products to customers," he said.

Jason Ward, of John Scott Meat, sponsors of the speciality pie evaluation, said it was a fantastic opportunity for customers to showcase their skill, creativity, and passion for crafting the perfect family pie.

"We are fortunate to have such quality, locally sourced food available on our High Street," he said.
