An Inverness fugitive busker made a brief appearance at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday.

Kim Avis, who is also known as Kim Gordon, formerly of Bunchrew, is facing a total of 24 charges – including allegations of rape, sexual assault and assault – and was due to face trial in March.

However he failed to appear for the start of the trial after going missing in America after allegedly going for a swim in California in February.

It is expected a new indictment will be served on 55-year-old Avis. No application was made for bail.

During yesterday's hearing Avis apologised for missing the original court date and was remanded in custody until the next appearance.

He was arrested in Colorado in July and extradited back to Scotland by US Marshals on Friday.
