Inverness businesswoman is jailed for assault

A BUSINESSWOMAN who launched a glass attack that left a woman at a city charity bash scarred has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
Deborah Morren (54) had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting Gail MacDonald to her severe injury.
She wept and pleaded "No, don’t, please" as sentence was passed at Inverness Sheriff Court today.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson rejected calls to deal with the first offender by way of a sentence of unpaid work saying that while she accepted the offence was out of character it was of "such gravity" that imprisonment was the only option.
The court had heard how Morren, of Broadbank, Muir of Ord, attended a Highland Hospice function in Inverness’s Drumossie Hotel on October 30 last year where her husband Gary had been involved in a scuffle.
At the end of the night her husband and the husband of Mrs MacDonald then had a bust-up.
Morren threw her drink in Mrs MacDonald’s face then struck her on the face with the flute, causing the glass to break and spraying blood over nearby guests.
Morren later told police: "I threw some wine in a girl’s face and a glass hit her."
After being charged she added: "I didn’t mean to hit her."
