A CITY centre bar wants to join the riverside “café culture” with outside drinking this summer.

The Glenalbyn, on the corner of Young Street and Huntly Street opposite Ness Bridge, has applied for planning permission to set out up to eight tables, seating 32.

The application by licensee Marion Anderson to Highland Council proposes using 45sqm of pavement space in front of the premises. The matter is under consideration.

The supporting statement with the application says this will leave 3.3m of unimpeded pedestrian access along Young Street and 6.3m on the Huntly Street side.

The area will be enclosed using eight panels and stainless steel bollards, with access from Huntly Street.

The tables will be arranged to ensure 1m clear distance between groups sitting there.

The “Glen”, as it is known locally, opens from 11am-1am, is strictly for over 18s and does not sell food except bar snacks.

The tables and enclosure will be set out at 11am and packed up by 9pm. The statement adds that staff will collect glasses, inspect and disinfect tables every 15 minutes.
