A KIND-hearted hairdresser is offering free trims to anyone struggling with the cost of Christmas.

Allan MacKenzie will set up two chairs at the Kenneth Street Hall in Inverness from 9am on Christmas Eve.

And he will work alongside his junior Chloe MacDonald “for as long as it takes” to get through his client list.

The self-employed hairdresser came up with the plan after hearing about a free Christmas lunch being laid on for people in need at Inverness Cathedral.

“I just thought it would be nice if we could give them a haircut as well,” he said. “I started off thinking it would just be for homeless people but now I’m extending it to anyone who’s struggling with the cost of Christmas, anyone who just wants a haircut but can’t afford it.”

The 24-year-old regularly does his bit for good causes having previously taken part in a bungee jump, the Strictly Inverness competition and an endurance race.

“We have a good few bookings already,” he said. “At the last check our post has been seen by more than 20,000 people.”

Walk-in cuts are possible but bookings can also be made on Facebook via the Cathedral’s page: Inverness Cathedral, dedicated to St Andrew.
