An Inverness bar has been named as one of the best whisky bars in the world.

The Malt Room, based in Church Street, was named in the top 50 list by New York-based lifestyle magazine, Inside Hook.

Speaking about being named in the list, The Malt Room’s general manager John Donaldson, said: “It came as a massive surprise to us as we didn’t even know we were up for running in the list!

“It’s really great to be recognised as we’ve had success with national awards, but this one is international, with bars from Canada, Japan and Australia also being in the list.”

Inside Hook reached out to people in the whisky industry and asked the professionals to name their top bars. The Malt Room was recommended by Matt Powell, the owner of The Doctors Office, a bar in Portland, Oregon.

Describing The Malt Room, he said: “Humble digs, comfortable atmosphere, and a phenomenal whisky selection.”

John added: “This list puts us more on the map and we should hopefully reach more of an audience, especially internationally.

“Inverness is becoming busier with tourists, so hopefully this will encourage more people along.”
