Inverness nightspot Bar One is closing – but only to undergo 'major transformation'

INVERNESS city centre cocktail hotspot Bar One is calling "last orders" later this month – before reopening in time for the World Cup final after a major transformation.
Owner Cru Holdings will unveil a brand new concept for the venue in time for the big game on December 18.
The change comes after Bar One has been13 years at the heart of the Inverness nightlife scene.
Cru Holdings say the move represents its confidence in Inverness, at a time when businesses up and down the country are hesitant to invest in city centres. It follows the company’s acquisition last year of the popular White House cocktail bar on Union Street.
No jobs will be lost in the transition, with all current staff offered positions in the new venue or in other Cru Holdings properties across the city.
Managing director of Cru Holdings, Scott Murray, said: “Bar One was Cru Holdings’ first venue, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved there over the last 13 years.
“But as drinking habits change post-pandemic, we know that people are looking for new places to meet and socialise with friends and family. That’s what we are creating with our new concept – a local pub in the heart of the city – that emphasises our core values of quality and affordability.
“We’ll still be serving up world-class cocktails from Academy Street – but we’ll also be shining a spotlight on great beers, wines and spirits, too. Plus we’ll be dishing up some classic traditional pub grub.
“Although it will be difficult to say goodbye to Bar One, we’re incredibly excited for what the next phase will bring.”
Bar One was established in 2009, pioneering the cocktail scene in Inverness. Over the course of its 13 years, the business has gained worldwide notoriety for its incredible cocktail creations.
In its final weeks, the bar will bring back all its classic cocktails for one last hurrah, including the Drumstick, Bubblegum Daiquiri and Tutti Frutti.
Scott added: “Business is shaped by the ability to adapt and change when needed, and that’s what we’re doing. Right now, customers are looking for a more diverse offering when they go out.
“Alongside stellar food and drink, we want our Academy Street venue to be a hub to meet and socialise, to relax and let your hair down.
"From sports to live music, karaoke to quiz nights, we’ll be here for the community.
“We’ve got big plans ahead, and will be making more announcements soon. Just know that we’ll definitely be welcoming customers for the World Cup final!”
