AN INVERNESS songwriter appeared in an interview with the New York Times after announcing the release of a new single last week.

A gigging musician on the Scottish scene for a number of year, Katie Gregson-Macleod (21) saw her popularity grow after she published a video on Tik Tok with a work-in-progress song 'complex'.

After the song went viral and inspired covers by other popular artists, the musician landed a contract with records giant Columbia, and released a demo for the song last week.

She is now the main focus of an interview on the worldwide-read newspaper.

Her single on Spotify has now reached more than three million plays.
