A unique new activity bar with axe-throwing fun for customers is set to create 30 jobs in Inverness city centre.

As we reported today, Playback, a concept dreamed up by businessmen Taran Campbell and David Montgomery, has just been given planning approval by Highland Council.

As well as three separate bars, self-service beer taps and an array of entertaining pursuits inside, it will feature two open roof-top terraces for diners and drinkers.

It should also breathe new life into a large vacant premises on Academy Street and an adjoining building on Queensgate, boosting the city economy.

Speaking about the project for the first time since it was given the green light, Mr Campbell revealed he hoped to open to customers before the end of August.

And he stood by his pledge to create around 30 full and part-time jobs.

Mr Campbell said: “In terms of our original concept, it is very much the same.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have permission to progress with the development of our two rooftop terraces.

“It is going to be such a big draw for Inverness.

“We’re delighted that Highland Council has agreed to support us on this project.

“Obtaining planning permission was the last major hurdle, and with this vote of confidence we can now start making progress towards what we believe will be a fantastic addition to Inverness.

“We’re really excited to show everyone what we’ve been working on, and we’d just ask everyone to be sure to keep an eye on all of our social media for the latest.”

The last remaining minor hurdle is ongoing talks with building control, which Mr Campbell said should be ironed out within two or three weeks.

He added: “I’m still hoping we will be ready to open the doors by August, so long as we can get the building warrant in reasonable time we aim to be open this summer.

“We're looking at employing approximately 30 people as a mix of full and part-time positions.”
