Ardersier Primary School Nursery has received praise during its latest unannounced inspection.

It comes after the facility was told to make several improvements around 12 months ago following an inspection.

This time round the Care Inspectorate rated its care, play and learning, as well as its setting as very good, while grading leadership and staff team as good.

The nursery, which is only open during school term time, is operated by Highland Council and provides a care service to a maximum of 30 children, from the age of three to those not yet attending primary school.

Inspectors said: "Children experienced warm, caring and nurturing approaches from staff.

"Children benefited from high quality snack and lunchtime experiences which promoted opportunities to develop their independence and skills for life.

"Play experiences across the nursery supported the development of children's language, literacy and numeracy.

"The indoor and outdoor provision included a variety of loose parts and open-ended resources, enabling children to explore, be curious and develop their creativity and imagination.

"Effective quality assurance and self-evaluation processes supported the ongoing development of the service."

Staff were praised for sensitively listening and responding to children, offering comfort and reassurance when needed. "This supported children to feel secure, valued and loved," inspectors said.

The management team was also hailed as making significant progress in implementing clear and effective plans to improve the service, since the last inspection.
