Inspectors praise 'exceptional' service at High Street optician

An Inverness High Street eye surgery offering laser corrective treatment has been given a glowing inspection report.
Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) found that people's experience of care and the involvement of carers and families from Optical Express was "exceptional."
The inspection report said: "Innovative methods were used to gather patient feedback and this had informed improvement and service development. Patients rated their experience as excellent and survey results were very positive.
"Staff were skilled and experienced in complaints handling. The clinic environment maintained patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality."
The safe delivery of care section was rated as "good."
The report continued: "Each patient had attended an initial consultation as part of the service’s assessment process to
establish their suitability for laser eye surgery. Patients found the assessment process thorough and were given detailed information about the risks and benefits of treatment to help them make an informed decision.
"Patients also stated they had enough time to consider their treatment options after the consultation."
HIS is the national healthcare improvement body and regulator of private healthcare services.
In Scotland private clinics provided by doctors, nurses, dental care professionals or midwifes are required to be registered with the organisation.
HIS said: "It is only by choosing a private clinic registered with Healthcare Improvement Scotland that patients can be assured that the services they use meet the high standards of quality expected of registered services."
