A 38-year-old woman had consumed a cocktail of drink and drugs before leaping out of a car in Inverness city centre to attack an acquaintance of hers.

But Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Gemma Robertson, of Madras Street, Inverness had no idea why she unleashed a flurry of punches on the unsuspecting woman in Church Street on May 10.

Fiscal depute David Morton said the victim sustained bruising and a burst nose.

Her solicitor advocate Neil Wilson told Sheriff Sara Matheson: "She can't explain what was bothering her. She had been taking drink, drugs or a combination of both before this.

"There is no lingering animosity between the women."

Mr Wilson said his client was currently serving a 12-month jail sentence with her earliest release date being November 14 this year.

Robertson was jailed for six months after admitting the assault. But the sentence is unlikely to impact her release date.
