A new running club is aiming to help people who have or have had cancer.

Incredible Feet is the brainchild of Rebecca O’Hara who faced her own battle with breast cancer.

“After my own experience with cancer I wanted to find a way to help others who have been in, or are going through, the same situation,” she said.

“Traditional support groups are great but I realise that they aren’t for everyone. Knowing that you’re going into a room to talk about cancer for an hour can be daunting for some”. So she decided to create a group that is both more active and more casual than the norm.

“I think it would be easier for people to chat when they’re focused on looking ahead during a run than sitting down and facing everyone in a group session,” she said.

The idea, she added, is that participation will “help people take back control of their lives by looking after an aspect of their health they can control, even if they’re going through treatment”.

She also hopes that running in beautiful natural surroundings and being with people who understand the situation they are in first-hand will improve the mental health of those involved.

Beginner sessions will be held on March 4, involving a combination of jogging and walking .

“A lot of people say they’re not a ‘runner’, but when they tried they probably tried going all out on their first run, exhausted themselves and gave up,” Ms O’Hara said. “These are no pressure sessions. If you need to stop, stop. If you need to slow down, slow down.So come and give it a try. Meet some amazing people and enjoy seeing some nature.”
