JUNIOR players with an Inverness ice hockey team have enjoyed intensive training from one of the sport’s leading Scottish lights.

Members of the Inverness Highlanders, which meets at the Inverness Ice Centre, enjoyed a three-day training camp.

Players aged five to 13 years old had a number of on-the-ice sessions as well as video lectures from Scotland ice hockey coach Davie Edmonds.

There was also input from Dundee players including goalie Harry Elder.

Highlanders’ head coach Stevie Innes said: “None of us have played in goal so Harry’s given them a new insight into the goalie’s perspective and helped the players to progress in that. “

He said the camp had been a great learning experience for his young players.

“After the first day we could already see a difference,” he said.

“We wanted to give the players some more experience and a different point of view to get them ready for the Scottish League which starts in August.

“It’s been a great experience for the kids. Since they’ve been working as a team they’ve learned as a team and bonded as a team as well as having had a chance to make new friends.”
