VISITORS descended on the Ness Islands at the weekend for a spooktacular Halloween show that kicked off the Inverness Winter Festival.

The theme was all about space aliens and many got into the spirit of the occasion with inventive fancy dress outfits.

Festival spokesman Cllr Callum Smith said: “I was absolutely delighted at how the event went and with the creativity shown by the Eden Court Theatre performers. Many of the youngsters devised their own scenes.

“It was a very exciting show and a great start to the winter festival. It was one of Scotland’s biggest outdoor theatrical experiences.”

Around 6300 attended on the Saturday evening despite wet weather and there were around 7600 on the Sunday.

Special lighting effects from Arts in Motion supported by Limelight Event Services thrilled the crowds.

The festival continues on Tuesday with the free civic bonfire night and fireworks display. A request for no sparklers to be brought to the event has been made on safety grounds.
