An Inverness shop worker who stole £2500 from its sub post office has been ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid community work and take a course in offender rehabilitation.

Daniel Sherry, now of Telford, Shropshire has also been placed under social work supervision for a year after he admitted the theft through his lawyer Duncan Henderson.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that when the missing money from the Charleston Court outlet, was discovered, CCTV was checked and Sherry was seen taking the money from the safe.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood told Sheriff Sara Matheson that Sherry could be seen hiding as he waited for fellow staff members to leave the shop and then he left with the cash.

The court heard that when accused of the March 11, 2022 offence, 22-year-old Sherry said: "I only meant to take £1000 but the bundle had more in it."

Mr Henderson said his client had repaid £210.

"He accepts it was a breach of trust and admitted his guilt immediately," Mr Henderson added.
