A local barbers is giving back to the community in celebration of its first anniversary.

TM Barbers based on Tomnahurich Street is running a Pensioner Raffle to mark one year of business.

Tracy Morris, who owns the shop was thinking of ways that she could mark the occasion, and thought the best way to do that was to give back to her loyal customers by supporting them over the winter months.

She will be giving away six months of free haircuts to the lucky winner, alongside other donations she has received from other local businesses.

Speaking about the raffle she said: “I initially thought about just giving the haircuts away for a pensioner, but then I decided to contact a couple of people and they were all willing to donate so it has got a bit bigger.

“I was thinking about what I could do for the anniversary, but it's just me here so I thought I could give back to everyone who’s supported me this year.”

She decided to support the elderly over the winter months as they are her most frequent customers.

Ms Morris will also be giving the funds generated by the raffle to the winning pensioner to help them with the cost of living.

“Everyone is suffering but I thought the elderly are the best way to go, as I have a lot of them here.

“The money from selling the tickets will also go to the pensioner.

“I offer everyone who comes into the shop a ticket, and if it’s someone younger buying one, I ask them to nominate an elderly winner.

“The cost of everything is going up so hopefully the money from the raffle will help them.”

Prizes that have been donated include: a king size electric blanket from Highland Industrial Supplies; a bottle of malt whisky from Inverness Taxis; a £20 voucher from John Munro Butchers; and a bottle of wine from Prime Restaurant.

Speaking about whether she thinks other businesses should follow her lead, she said:

“You can’t expect everyone to do something as everyone is suffering. But this didn’t cost me much.

“I can’t help everyone but I can help one person.”

Ms Morris is welcoming anyone to pop in to purchase a raffle ticket at TM Barbers on 13 Tomnahurich Street, up until October 31.
