Hundreds attend Picnic in the Park at Viewfield in Nairn to mark Queen's Platinum Jubilee

The gathering for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was even larger than that to mark Her Majesty’s 60 years on the throne a decade ago.

Nairn’s Lord Lieutenant George Asher and Provost Laurie Fraser also attended the community event to mark her 70 years on the throne.

Encouraged to bring their own picnics along those attending were also treated to an afternoon of live music from choirs to jazz, folk and traditional singing as well.

There was even the chance to join in a Strip The Willow on the grass along with range of stalls, games and funfair rides.

The celebration was organised by members of the community with support from Nairn Rotary Club, Nairn Museum, Ashers, Gordons Timber, The Havelock Hotel and Nairn BID.

Mr Asher said: George Asher said: “It was an absolutely wonderful day and great to see so many people turning out for this community event enjoying themselves with many getting in the spirit of the Jubilee by dressing in red, white and blue or donning paper crowns.

“Nairn has once again proved at how good its community is at working together to create something really special for the town and its residents for the jubilee. It is so great that Nairn has made itself part of this historic occasion.”
