Hundreds of votes cast in city centre's awards drive

MORE than 750 people have cast votes so far in a bid to see their favourite city centre businesses reap the rewards of excellent customer service.

The first ever Inverness City Centre Business Awards are due to take place on May 17 as Inverness Business Improvement District (Bid), in conjunction with the Inverness Courier, seeks to celebrate the best of the city’s national and independent retailers, as well as charities, eateries and hair and beauty providers.

Hundreds of nominations havenow been whittled down to 70 businesses across the awards’ seven categories, all hoping to be named the best.

Welcoming news of the huge number of votes that have already been cast so far Bid manager Mike Smith said: "We are delighted with the tremendous response shown by the public in voting for their favourite Inverness city centre businesses.

"It just demonstrates how interested people are in supporting local businesses and what is happening within the city centre.

"At the same time there is a massive amount of excitement amongst the 77 businesses who have made it through to the final list in the seven award categories."

Members of the public shoud cast their votes before midnight on May 3.

You can vote in as many categories as you wish, though only one store should be voted for in each individual category.

You should also give a reason for your choice.

One winner and up to two highly commended businesses will be named in each category.

Award winners will be announced in the Courier and the awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Mercure Inverness Hotel on May 17.

The Courier office in Stadium Road is one of three places where boxes will be placed for completed voting forms. The others are the Victorian Market and Eastgate Shopping Centre.

Forms can also be posted to Inverness City Centre Business Awards, Inverness Courier, New Century House, Stadium Road, Inverness IV1 1FG.

You can use the form printed in the Courier here or pick up a copy from any of the nominated businesses.

Only businesses within the Bid area were eligible to be nominated for the awards.
