Details of a memorial service at Inverness Cathedral for Winnie Ewing – the former Highland MP, MEP and MSP and independence icon – have been revealed.

The mother of Inverness and Nairn SNP MSP Fergus Ewing, she died last month aged 93.

The memorial service at 2pm on July 15 follows her funeral last week.

It will be conducted by the Most Reverend Mark Strange, Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church and Bishop of the Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness, and the Very Reverend Sarah Murray, Provost of Inverness Cathedral.

There will be eulogies from former First Minister Alex Salmond and former Scottish Government cabinet minister Alex Neil. The readings will be by First Minister Humza Yousaf, Scottish Parliament presiding officer Alison Johnstone and Highland SNP MSP Kate Forbes.

Gaelic songs will be performed by Julie Foulis, accompanied by her husband Eamon Doorley. Winnie’s grand-daughter Ciara will also sing.

The service will also be live-streamed to Facebook, Youtube and Vimeo.

A spokesman for the family said: "All are welcome to attend."
