An Inverness church has come up with a novel way to open its doors to the community by running a fortnightly Writers’ Hub.

The initiative comes from Inverness Baptist Church in the city’s Castle Street.

A spokesperson for the church said: “We realised that we had a handful of active writers in our midst.

“It’s hard enough to find protected time to simply write, so we thought that by using this welcoming space in the church, we could enable people to do just that.”

Explaining how it will work they added: “We’ll open up The Hub at the church at 9.30am on a Thursday morning, and there’ll be space and silence to concentrate for everyone to work on their own projects, with a brief break for folks to mingle and have a coffee.

“We can then resume our writing until noon when we’ll close.”

To be overseen by volunteers and intended to be flexible people can drop in late or leave early, depending on what works best for them.

The first two Writers’ Hub mornings will be held on Thursday (November 25) and on December 9.

There is no need for places to be booked and all are welcome to attend.

Those intending to come along, however, are advised that internet access in the space is limited.

All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own notebooks or laptops.

Basic coffee and tea can be provided, but attendants are also very welcome to bring their own supplies to keep them going.

More information is available by emailing writershubinverness@gmail.com or simply drop in to The Hub when it is opened where volunteers will be very happy to help.
