The previous offender was found in circumstances that suggested he intended to commit theft.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 50-year-old Paul Spears of Old Steading Road, Inverness, was caught within the curtilage of a property in the city’s Portree Terrace on June 29, 2020.

He admitted being there when it could be inferred he intended to commit theft and was ordered to carry out 90 hours of unpaid community work.

Sheriff Sara Matheson warned him: “You have an appalling record for housebreaking. But you have stayed out of trouble for years. You have to get your life back on track.

“However, if you don’t do the work, then you are looking at three months in prison.”
