Firefighters were called to a blaze in Inverness apparently caused by smouldering ash.

It comes after a bin lorry went on fire this morning due to warm ash being put in a bin.

The fire in at the property on the corner of Cradlehall Park and Caulfield Road was at around 3.20pm and damaged an outhouse and some trees.

Inverness South councillor Duncan Macpherson who was in the area at the time, said a firefighter told him it was caused by smouldering ashes being put in a bin.

Cllr Macpherson said: "The owners of the house had a very lucky escape as at the time the fire service were at the property, the flames were reaching the eaves of the house.

"The high winds of this afternoon managed to whip up the flames. No-one was to blame, it was just an accident after someone put the ashes from the house fire into the wrong bin and there were flammable items next to them."

No-one was injured.

Two fire crews from Inverness were sent to the scene and the blaze was extinguished just after 4pm.
