The Crerar Trust has announced that it has awarded a grant of £7,500 to baby loss charity Held in our Hearts.

The charity will use the funding for the expansion of services in the Highlands.

Staff are working in partnership with NHS Highlands to provide both specialist baby loss counselling and peer support for bereaved parents.

They say during the pandemic, there was no specialist support for parents, which resulted in some families hitting crisis point, so this service has been developed to meet that vital need.

The funding will part fund a specialist baby loss counsellor and peer supporter, ensuring that bereaved parents in the Highlands are given timely, early intervention to ensure that no family has to face baby loss alone.

Crerar Hotels operate hotels and inns which are based in Scotland.

Uniquely, more than 50 per cent of the group’s distributable profits are donated to charities operating within areas where Crerar Hotels are based.

The trust, which is chaired by Paddy Crerar CBE, has awarded over £7.5m of grants to over 480 organisations over the last 19 years.

This forms part of a commitment to re-invest in the communities in which the group’s hotels and inns are based.

Mr Crerar CBE said: “We are delighted to have made this award to Held in our Hearts and look forward to hearing how this funding helps impact their work.

"Crerar Hotels is committed to giving back to the local community to help it grow and thrive, and provide opportunities that may otherwise seem out of reach. For every stay our customers have with us they are supporting others who really need it.

"It is great for our folk in the hotels to see their hard work and efforts helping people in their own communities as well as those from throughout the whole of Scotland.”

Nicola Welsh, CEO, Held in our Hearts added:“We are so pleased to be able to offer 1-2-1 peer support and counselling with the generous support from the Crerar Trust.

"We have provided specialist baby loss counselling for 26 years in the Lothians and are happy that we can now offer this to any family in the Highlands and Islands.

"No one should be alone after their precious baby dies and we will do all we can to walk with families providing person centred and flexible care for as long as needed.

"We are so grateful to Paddy Crerar and everyone at the Crerar Trust for choosing to support our work in this way”.
