DISCOUNTS are being offered for respite holidays, supported by the Cobbs group, in the Loch Ness area next month.
The initiative is part of the OpenNESS project, with a special rate on accommodation at the Clansman Hotel for carers, or cared-for people, throughout February.
In addition, as part of the project, a number of awareness-raising sessions have been organised which are aimed at creating a more inclusive community.
They have been organised by Soirbheas, the local charity for Glen Urquhart and Strathglass, by working in partnership with the community.
The initiative is based on the Dementia Friendly Communities model which has been developed by the Alzheimer’s Society.
It is hoped they can help create a more welcoming, accepting, supportive and accessible community for all.
The free one-hour sessions, which are open to anyone, will take place between 10.30am and 11.30am in Glen Urquhart Library.
Carol Masheter, Soirbheas community development manager, said: “The awareness sessions are aimed at helping people handled a situation better, increase their confidence or reduce the occasions when an off-hand comment or behaviour has made someone feel uncomfortable”
